Savannah Skinner
Growing up with a database administrator for a mom gave me and my siblings a strong love for technology. I was the classroom IT girl who doodled on the corner of her homework. This passion for both art and technology led me to web design and development, a way of marrying my natural skills and interests..
My philosophy towards design and development have been fairly simple: keep it pretty but maintain usability. What I create should be relevant, pleasing to look at, intuitive to use, and easily maintained. I bring this mindset to every project and strive to improve a little more each day. If you’d like to see my progress please visit the projects page.
This portfolio serves as a playground to try out ideas, a gallery to showcase my progress, and an introduction to those who’d like to know more. If you are interested in working with me, see my resume and what I can do on the skillset page. If you see something you’d like more information on, reach out to me using the contact page. Feedback in the form of constructive criticism, commendation and general advice is always appreciated.
Projects
A simple online game for my nephews to use in addition to a toy set I gave them. This mvc web app uses JavaScript's fetch to interact with the backend. The php backend app responds with json. As a small project built for a mobile experience, it is not fully responsive. See this project on github.
I joined a coding group where we regularly challenge ourselves to do better and/or work faster. This challenge was designing and building a simple site within 48 hours.
(This project is currently being rebuilt)
This project uses JavaScript’s fetch method to reach out to my api for backend processing. It accepts RESTful urls and return ready-to-present pages. This was also my first in depth project using MVC and OOP on the backend. It was a great experience and I look forward to using similar ideology on my future projects. The next step for this project is social logins such as Google and/or Facebook.
Terra Navis is an online resource providing useful information about earthships. It was a group project with 3 of my talented classmates for the Website Design Team Business Professional's of America Competition (State, 1st Place). My primary work was in front and back end but I was also involved in the design. The admin section includes an article builder, forgotten password system, and dark/light mode switch.
This was the first site where I designed the style tile, wireframe, and site. I got a good in depth look at that process and learned a lot from the experience. This was also my first project using bootstrap, specifically the grid system. The responsiveness of bootstrap’s grid system continues to impress me.
I worked off of a style tile to design this site. I then used CSS’ grid systems to have the site make the best use of available space at all sizes. This project also taught me when to push past obstacles vs when to temper what I design with the limit of the tools at my disposal.
The first site I ever built, this simple project was to take an image and create a responsive site from it. Later on, I overlaid screenshots of the site over the original image to ensure a close match. The site has no interactivity since I did not know JavaScript at the time of its’ creation. While I now have the skills to fix this, I prefer to keep this relic of a simpler time..

I interned at Traction Marketing for roughly 3 months. They have a great team of passionate individuals and I'm really glad I had the opportunity to learn from them. I learned so much about Wordpress, jQuery, and collaborative development while there. Most school or personal projects are entirely on my own so this really helped me understand how to clearly communicate and work with a team. All in all, it was a great experience and I look forward to applying the skills I gained in my future projects.
